Ghost bikes in memory of lost cycling companions

GhostbikePeople taking the bike to get around in the city are facing great risk. The biking community of New York has put up a bike painted all white for the public to remember that a 28-year old bycyclist was killed at that spot. The idea stems from bicyclists from Ghost Bike Pittsburgh where they had to install ghost bikes more than once in remembrance of killed co-cyclists. The look of those bikes is both impressive and moving.

I’m excited to learn that people are making ghostbikes all over the country, and that they are using them to commemorate cyclist/automobile accidents. I started painting ghost bikes in 2002 to acknowledge abandoned bicycles locked on the streets of San Francisco and have posted a record of them on ghostbike.net

It’s great to see this idea grow!
