In the article New media and internet activism: from the ‘Battle of Seattle’ to blogging Richard Kahn and Douglas Kellner discuss how

the internet may be deployed in a democratic and emancipatory manner by a growing planetary citizenry that is using the new media to become informed, to inform others, and to construct new social and political relations.

I still want/have to write an essay on the emancipatory potential of internet with the focus on social software like blogs and wikis. So this is a good warm-up.
